Heating system upgrades are always a great idea – but sometimes you might not need to upgrade your entire heating system to achieve high-efficiency heating.
In fact, a new oil or gas burner can improve the efficiency of an older heating system by 17 percent or even more!
You might need a new burner rather than a new furnace or boiler if ...
- The burner component is malfunctioning, old, or inefficient while the boiler/furnace structure (heat exchanger) remains in good condition.
- Your boiler or furnace is in good shape, but you want to improve efficiency.
- Your burner frequently needs repairs (nozzles, transformers, or electrodes) while the rest of the unit works fine.
- Your furnace or boiler is only 10 to 15 years old, but the burner is failing.
If a new burner is in order, we recommend a flame-retention burner, which prevents heated air from escaping up the chimney and can result in up to 20 percent savings in fuel costs as compared to a unit equipped with an older cast-iron head burner. A high-static burner is even more efficient.
